People often come to therapy when going through a crisis and struggling with life. A realisation that life changes need to be made, or specific problems such as relationship difficulties or bereavement, can be a prompt to seeking help and support.
A safe and confidential space is provided by the therapist enabling an exploration of those aspects of ourselves that can be difficult not only to understand but to access.
Therapy is for everyone who seeks greater self-awareness, a better understanding of themselves and their relationships with others.
By looking more closely at our emotions and experiences we are better able to understand the patterns in our lives. It is possible to gain an insight into our behaviour, what motivates us and, importantly, to become more aware of our unconscious thoughts and feelings.
Therapy can be challenging, to look at ourselves with clear eyes is not always comfortable. However, working together with a qualified therapist in a confidential and safe way can be a valuable and life changing experience.
Counsellors who are members of BACP are ethically bound to maintain client confidentiality and offer objective insight and understanding.
My counselling practice is centrally located in London EC2, within easy reach of the Hammersmith & City, Circle, Metropolitan, Central and Northern Lines and local bus services. I am within walking distance of, or easy access to, the mainline stations of Liverpool Street, Farringdon and Kings Cross. The nearest tubes are Barbican and Moorgate.
Weekly sessions last for 50 minutes. Appointments take place in the daytime or evening depending on availability. Regular sessions are important in order to facilitate, and give momentum to, the therapeutic process. If, after the initial meeting/s, an agreement to work together is reached then a regular day and time for sessions will be established.
I offer both open-ended and fixed term therapy. We can discuss in our initial meeting/s which option will suit you best.
The cost of a 50 minute session will be discussed with each individual. The initial consultation lasts one hour, the fee to be agreed in advance. Preliminary consultations may continue for a few meetings in order to give us time to establish whether we wish to work together.
I make some reduced cost places available.
I hold a BACP accredited diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Therapy from MHCPC (www.manorhousecentre.org.uk), and a BA Joint Hons from the Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. I abide by the BACP (British Association of Psychotherapy and Counselling www.bacp.co.uk) Ethical Framework.
Alongside my private practice in EC2, I worked for three years as an Honorary Psychotherapist as part of the Fitzjohn's Unit a specialist unit at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust. Prior to the Tavistock I worked for two years as an Honorary Counsellor for an NHS GP surgery.
My previous experience includes working for the national media and several leading arts and design organisations.
